Information about H1N1

Posted under Uncategorized

Brookview School is closely monitoring the H1N1 flu situation. As of this time, there are no confirmed cases of H1N1 at Brookview School. We are taking every possible measure regarding handwashing, sanitation, and the close observation of children (and teachers) so that anyone displaying symptoms of flu is sent home to avoid possible exposure to others. We would like to emphasize the importance of keeping your children at home if they have any flu symptoms. This includes fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, chills, headache, and possible vomiting and/or diarrhea.

Listed below are several links to important facts, information and guidelines regarding the flu from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. If clicking on a link does not open a file, please copy and paste the Web address into your Internet browser.

Slow Snack News From the Garden

Posted under Uncategorized

Your Slow Snack team has been very busy this summer.  The garden, despite the deer, has been fairly prolific, and lots of snow peas and radish pickles are in the school’s pantry now.  The tomatillos and onions are ready, and we are very close to having lots of tomatoes for salsa!  The Slow Snack folks have committed themselves to producing all the School’s salsa for the year.  Currently, we have black bean/corn salsa and lots of tomatillo-based salsa canned up and ready to be eaten.  There’s lots more salsa and pizza sauce to be made once those tomatoes ripen.

Every Thursday night, please join us for Weed and Feed.  We start at 5:30, please bring picnic items, but be assured there’s lots of slow food to be sampled.  Now is an exciting time to join us:  the garden is just exploding with produce.
